Microsoft Office Document Imaging

Whenever Microsoft issues an automatic update to Microsoft Office 2003 Professional, Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) stops working. Here's how I've found to restore MODI.

  1. In the /windows/system32 directory rename the file MDIMON.DLL to MDIMON.DLL.OLD.
  2. In Control Panel, start the Add or Remove Programs tool.
  3. Select Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, then click on Change.
  4. Select Add or Remove Features and press Next.
  5. Put a check in the box before 'Choose advanced customization of applications' and press Next.
  6. Scroll to the bottom and click on the + before Office Tools.
  7. Scroll to Microsoft Office Document Imaging; click on the icon and select Not Available.
  8. Click Update.
  9. When the update finishes, reboot the computer.
  10. In Control Panel, start the Add or Remove Programs tool.
  11. Select Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, then click on Change.
  12. Select Add or Remove Features and press Next.
  13. Put a check in the box before 'Choose advanced customization of applications' and press Next.
  14. Scroll to the bottom and click on the + before Office Tools.
  15. Scroll to Microsoft Office Document Imaging; click on the icon and select 'Run all from My Computer'.
  16. Click Update.
  17. When the update finishes, reboot the computer.
  18. MODI should now be working again.
